What else am I if not a writer?
A writer is someone who writes.
They say a writer is someone who writes so I am writing. I am writing because that is what a writer does and what else am I if not a writer? Putting words to paper seems like the sole thing I am quite okay-ish at. People read my random writings and they feel enough feelings for them to be regarded as okay-ish writings. Don’t ask me what I write about because I have no clue. I am just glad the quote doesn’t go, “A writer is someone who is certain about what they write,” because then I would not be a writer. And what else am I if not a writer?
I am writing this on a laptop using Google Docs as opposed to a pen and paper because I find that it is easier to share my writings with my new friends across the world. Although pen and paper is okay-ish, I can edit my writing easily and autocorrect helps a great deal with my spelling errors. Actually, I find that I can’t write without Google Docs. Even though I graduated with a B in English from Secondary School, I can’t spell a lot. I am glad the quote does not say, “A writer is someone who writes with paper and pen and has no need for autocorrect,” because then I would not be a writer. And what else am I if not a writer?
I am writing and writing and writing, hoping that one day I get to visit Tokyo. Not because I know very much about it but because it seems like everyone is heading there. What is in Tokyo? I want to know and I want to write about walking through the streets of Tokyo.
I also want to visit Europe. Also, I don’t know what exactly it is that interests me in Europe but I just know that I need to be there soon. I need to write about tasting pizza and eating foods that will upset my stomach. I want to tell a random stranger to take a picture of me by the eiffel tower, big ben, that ancient stadium in Rome, and other tourist-y places.
I am glad that the quote does not say, “a writer is someone who knows much about Tokyo and why they want to visit Europe,” because then I would not be a writer. And what else am I if not a writer?
Sometimes, I write to earn a little cash. I write about Lycans, werewolves, ghosts, gnomes, feys, witches, billionaires, billionaire feys, alphas, lunas. I don’t enjoy writing them and I cry every time I take on a job. I am not obligated to take on these jobs but then I remember that I need to pay for this and that and that also money is a great fuel for a passion like writing. Although I won’t say that I am particularly passionate about writing, I do enjoy it most of the time. A writer is someone who writes, not someone who cries every time they take on a writing job. What else am I if not a writer?
Oftentimes, I realise that writing comes easy for me because I enjoy rambling. Rambling is saying everything that comes to mind without holding back. Rambling is writing. A talkative writer. A rambling writer who enjoys writing because writing is rambling and rambling is writing and rambling comes easy because she is a talkative writer who likes to ramble. A rambling writer who realises that ramble rhymes with babble… kind of. Then because she is fascinated by the connection she begins to babble now instead of ramble. Is babbling synonymous with rambling? Because if it is, she would be a talkative, rambling, babbling writer who enjoys writing because babbling is rambling, and rambling is writing. This writer is glad that the quote does not say, “A writer is someone who shuts up,” because then she would not be a writer. And what else is she if not a writer?
As a person who writes, I share my writings with the world because I believe the world - the internet - needs a piece of me. It needs a piece of my ramblings so when other internet fellows or fellows who write say that they enjoy my writing, my heart leaps for joy because I am not just a person who writes, I am a person who writes writings that are enjoyable.
I am a writing writer, an uncertain writer, an autocorrect-needing writer, a clueless writer, a always-cry-when-takes-up-writing-job writer, a never-shuts-up writer, a heart-leaping writer.
A writer is someone who writes. If I was given the chance to define a writer, I would say, “A writer is someone who is uncertain about what they write and who writes on Google Docs because they desperately need autocorrect and who does not know much about the places they want to visit or why they want to visit and who cries when they take on a writing job and who never shuts up and whose heart leaps for joy,” because that is exactly who I am and what else am I if not a writer?
